commercetools is the reference MACH commerce backend. API-first, microservices-native, used by enterprise retailers that have settled on composable architecture and need their commerce layer to behave the same way. The product is opinionated about composability and unopinionated about almost everything else.
Patchworks integrates commercetools for product publication from PIMs, order routing to OMS and ERP, customer mastering and cross-region inventory. The strength of commercetools is also its complexity at integration time: the data model is rich and projects can lose months arguing about which entities own which truths.
Patchworks's per-flow scoping helps here, because it makes the boundary between commercetools and the systems around it explicit rather than implicit.
